The Rubik's Cube is the world's most popular puzzle and most popular toy. During the peak of its popularity, from 1980-1982, the *original* world record was set at the 1982 World Championships at 22.95 seconds by Minh Thai. It was the official world record for 21 years (until 2003), although there were many unofficial faster solves before and after this record.

My goal was to beat this time...

...especially since I could remember this record mentioned in the instruction booklet for every Rubik's Cube when I was younger, and I had no idea I could ever solve it, let alone achieve such a time.

My 21.98 second solve is non-lucky. The first two layers are solved intuitively (no algorithms). The last layer via the Fridrich Method; 2-look via 78 algorithms. (Jessica Fridrich herself placed 10th, at 29.11 seconds, in the same 1982 World Championship.)

Cube: I believe a Rubik's DIY (do it yourself), that I put together myself, with lubrication. You can tell at least once that it sticks when not aligned perfectly. Way better than the store bought cubes, but not anything close to the Lubix-style (and others) speed cubes.
