Ryuusei no Rockman - Denpa Henkan! On Air! - Virus Shooting
"We've got an emergency!
Viruses have appeared
in Echo Ridge!
Shoot to defeat the specified
virus type to make your
quota and clear the stage!
Use a Charge Shot to
blast through viruses
all in one go!"
... not gonna lie, I partially expected you to be able to point the Mega-head controller around at the screen, Time Crisis style.
Alas.
So! This is "Virus Shooting". Interestingly enough, it's more of a timing-based minigame than any kind of aiming one. While I would've preferred the ability to aim and fire, my wrist and arm were thankful for the reprieve.
All you have to do is press the action button, and Mega will fire straight ahead. Hold the button down, you'll charge up for a stronger blast. As per Mega's instructions, charged shots will tear through everything in front of you, even if the enemy is guarding! It's a great way to clear out what's in front of you, but be mindful of the Mr. Hertzes that like to occasionally enter your line of fire...
It's a nice warmup to get you used to using the action button, as well as the Buster mode controls for Free Battle. Honestly, the lack of aiming makes more sense when you consider how Buster mode works in Free Battle.
Of note, I feel like the Easy mode is a bit harder than the Normal one: I feel like it's easy to just spam charge shots to blow through Mettenna, but the Fokx enemy can eat either regular or charged shots, and protect whatever's behind them. It's kind of a neat gimmick.
Your prize for clearing these minigames are the "Cannon", "Air Spread", and "Gatling" Battle Cards. These allow you to change your shot type in Free Battle, with the harder difficulty cards doing more and more damage.
For those wondering, "Air Spread" and "Gatling" are zoomed-in versions of the "Air Spread" and "Gatling 1" card art that crop out Megaman.
