S2 E9 "The Legacy of Romulus Primus" Mount & Blade II: BANNERLORD Campaign
0"Romulus! What did I tell you about VICTORIES!?"
"That for every victory . There is defeat waiting around the corner," said a very young Romulus to his Father; Crown Prince Optimus Primus.
"That is true. But there's also another side to that Romulus. One that many Commanders, Lords, King and even Emperors fail to do!" said Optimus' voice fading into the mist of yester-year; of times long forgotten.
"To watch, listen. Prepare and learn," said Romulus having regained the present, the here and now and the fact that He was that Commander and Lord. While remembering the times his Father had spent in teaching his Son lessons many did not.
"Guardsman!" roared Romulus.
Before the Guard had entered, he was given orders to find Capitan Centorus, Shield-maiden Lagartha, Sword-Master Ubba Bloodsword and Valla; Princess of Sturgia.
Arriving at the command tent, all of them knew what was about to be revealed Their Commanders next use. But they also knew that they were not prepared and that most of the men had just finsihed 2 months worth of weapons training and battlefield tactics. THEY WERE NOT WARRIORS!
This development was not unseen or unnoticed in the eyes of Romulus Primus. But there was no time to waste. There was still 3 Wars to fight: The BATTANIANS and the NORTHERN and SOUTHERN EMPIRE. But Romulus wasn't overly concerned with them. It's what was coming! For as he lead his now Imperial-Sturgian Army through the gates of his now capital city of LYCARON. Reports came that the "Mongrel of Battania; High King Caladog" had been forced to kiss the boot of Grand Prince RAGANVAD and begged for PEACE. Followed shortly after by that of the Northern and Southern Empires.
But there was a stirring in the far East. The Horse Lords had prepared for WAR! Unleashing their wrath upon the Kingdom of Sturgia, in nothing more than a flood of Horse Archers and Cavalry. The Armies of Sturgia were pushed aside and wiped out in a hailstorm of arrows. But it got worse for the Kingdom of the frozen north. As the mountain stronghold of TYAL came under seige and in a matter of days, also crumbled to the heat of the Horse Lords. Unable to find away to hold off that tide. Raganvad sued for peace and handed over control of all conquered territory back to the Horse Lords. A bitter cost and a defeat that no warrior within Sturgia delighted to hear.
But matters were about to get even more serious and troublesome for the Sturgians. The VLANDIANS; a far spread Kngdom to the far West. Had set sights upon the realms of the North. Preparing his men, after his defeat at the hands of the Horse Lords. Romulus wanted nothing more than revenge against the Vlandians.
But that's when a childhood memory of a long lost Warrior, Mentor and loving Father- flooded his mind.
"CAREFUL ROMULUS! For with every VICTORY. There is DEFEAT waiting around the corner."
And this was true as the armies of Romulus Primus and the King of the Vlandians battled.
The battle raged on until the rays of the sun set. But the results did not shine upon Romulus or that of Sturgia. But resulted in DEFEAT.
Having found a guardsman- a little more guilty than his comrades. Romulus has able to escape and made his way to VARCHEG. it was here within the Lord's Hall that Romulus' rage was seen and displayed. 3 broken beyond repairable chairs and 2 tables, were the victims of the rage of a Primus.
In the end... it was clear that the other Kingdoms and Empires had won this day and their reward. What unfolded the next time- had not yet been written...
