So in this video I'm showing the difference between the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and the Apple iPad Pro M2 as far as their field of view is concerned when playing Call of Duty WARZONE Mobile.
For this test I have captured the video output from both the S23 Ultra and the iPad using my Atomos Ninja V. This capturing is so that it's easier to show you the gameplay output from each device.
Don't forget, when the S23 Ultra is being captured, the captured video is exactly the same as the S23 Ultra's screen, as the video output is a mirror image of the WARZONE Mobile gameplay on the S23 Ultra's screen. This is the same for the iPad Pro M2 as well, as it's gameplay output is also an exact mirror of the iPad Pro M2's screen.
So basically we have the iPad gameplay showing as a 3:2 aspect ratio centred inside the 16:9 wide screen aspect ratio of the video capture, which is exactly as it would look on a TV or monitor. This produces black bars on the side of the iPad's picture, this is called pillar-boxing. The S23 Ultra's is exactly the same, in that it is centred into the 16:9 frame, which means centring a 21:9 picture within a 16:9 frame, which produces black bars at the top and bottom of the screen, this is called letter-boxing.
Once the video captures are all lined up, we can see that there is a considerable difference within the horizontal field of view of WARZONE Mobile on each of the screens for the S23 Ultra and the iPad Pro M2.
I then centre the iPad picture over the S23 Ultra picture and this shows a lot clearer the huge difference in the field of view. With the iPad picture lined up and overlaid over the S23 Ultra picture, it's very clear that the S23 Ultra has about 40% more horizontal picture.
This is a massive difference and will definitely give anyone playing on the S23 Ultra a clear advantage over someone on the iPad. As a player on the S23 Ultra will be able to see more of the game on the left and right hand sides. Which would mean being able to see other players on the edges of the screen, when an iPad player wouldn't.
While this is all a very clear win for the S23 Ultra, WARZONE Mobile actually looks a lot better on the iPad Pro M2. The graphics quality is better on the iPad and the frame rate is a solid 60 FPS. These things may change for the official release of Warzone Mobile. That said, neither of them look great for the graphics on Warzone Mobile but they both look awesome on Call of Duty Mobile.
The S23 Ultra currently has the best Android graphics chip and the iPad M2 has the best graphics chip for any Apple mobile device. Both these devices are capable of much better graphics than what we've seen so far with Warzone Mobile. Again, lets hope that this gets better for the Warzone Mobile official release.
