DaVinci Resolve Free VS DaVinci Resolve Studio H.265 Export Encode Speed Test On Apple M1 Mac Mini

Visit Router-Mods https://geni.us/routermods

So what I'm doing in this video is to compare the free version of DaVinci Resolve to the paid version which is DaVinci Resolve Studio.

The comparison here is very specifically to see if there is any difference between both versions as far as how long they take to export and encode H.265 on the same computer.

The computer used is an Apple Mac Mini, which has 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

Just to rule out any chance of the internal SSD drive speed being a potential bottle neck during the reading and writing of video data during the video exporting and encoding, I have also used a separate external Thunderbolt SSD.

The Thunderbolt SSD used is one that I put together which uses a WD SN840X 4TB NVMe M.2 SSD, inside an Acasis NVMe to Thunderbolt enclosure.

During the export and encode on each version of DaVinci Resolve, I'm using the Mac Mini's internal SSD storage to read the ProRes 422 HQ from and then use the external 4TB Thunderbolt SSD drive to write the encoded H.265 HEVC video export to.

Here's a video showing how to build the Thunderbolt SSD used in this video.
