At first glance Salvage Op looked like it would be a nice, atmospheric, dungeon crawler style shooter. While it definitely aimed for that, it fell flat on execution.

I thought the level design and the atmosphere the game was going for was done well. The music and lighting definitely gave the game a creepy vibe. It just couldn't carry the game mechanics and enemies.

Essentially you get to play a deadly game of hide and seek with the enemies. They hide, you seek. The problem here is that your weapons just don't feel good. From the wrist breaking angle of the weapons to how they shoot and the lack of any ability to reload... They just aren't satisfying to shoot.

The enemies themselves are relatively idiotic. Very simple AI on the spiders, When getting shot at the just stand there if you're out of their aggro range. As soon as you're in aggro range they run directly at you and attack, change position if you don't kill them and then attack, repeat. The larger enemies never really did anything other than move slightly and make noises....

Oh the noises they made. The sound effects sounded like something out of the original Doom and would repeat even after the enemy was dead. This was probably the biggest immersion breaker for me.

Even at the reduced $4.99 price tag, it just wasn't all that fun and I can't really recommend it.

If there's a game you'd like me to check out, feel free to hit me up.
