Deadly Hunter VR Demo - VR Gameplay HTC Vive
Deadly Hunter tries to take the Archery Wave Shooter genre and put a new spin on it. I'm not sure if it works yet or not but it will be interesting to see how it ends up.
Deadly Hunter VR has your standard wave shooter mechanics. Start up a level, stand in one spot, shoot the things, don't die, repeat. The part that mixes things up is that DHVR adds in a trap mechanic.
The trap mechanic shows up in some of the game modes as predefined trap locations that you have no control over. These don't differ much from any other wave shooter. There are other types of levels where you place the traps down. This adds a bit of strategy to the gameplay.
I had access to bear traps and mud pits. They work like you'd expect, root and snare respectively. There are several empty slots that look like they are there to be filled by other traps. One of which appears to be a barricate based on the next piece of the game I thought was well done.
The achievement system. In the main map area there is a 'trophy room' of sorts where there are floating platforms with little statues on them. Walking up and pointing at one reveals the requirement to unlock the ability to pick up the trophy and mess around with it.
It's a simple thing but I really liked the way achievements were presented.
The main issue with the game at the moment though is the bow draw. The archery mechanics are almost entirely dependent on the bow hand doing all the aiming while the arrow hand does NOT control the pivot of the bow. All the arrow hand controls is loading the arrow and pulling back. If you want to angle your shot to the left or right you twist your bow hand. That's just not comfortable and feels bad.
There are interesting ideas here and the game could be interesting, as far as wave shooters go. I'd like to see if the devs are able to flesh out the game and iterate on some of the feedback.
If there's a game you'd like me to check out, feel free to hit me up.
