Deadly Hunter VR Demo Second Look - VR Gameplay HTC Vive
Taking a second look at Deadly Hunter as I was informed that I missed a few things. Both of which cover my main wish list items for the game.
Archery mechanic. There is a way to get the natural, or what they call conventional, archery mechanic. The setting is a bit hidden though. You have to start up a game, reach under the element pedestal(?) and tap the Home button that looks like a house.
IMO this isn't the best user experience and is pretty hidden. I would expect this to be in the settings menu at the level selection screen. It is a set it and forget it setting but it's not very discoverable where it is now.
The other item that I wanted to see in my previous video was more variety to the level types to make the game less of a straightforward wave shooter. Once you beat the third standard level you unlock a second 'Elite' level. This level is an escort mission. Don't groan, it's not a bad escort mission. It's actually pretty challenging and rewarding. As of this recording only 5 people have completed it. It's absolutely doable, it just takes more thought and planning than the other levels.
In addition to these two items I figured out that there's a decent progression system. Nothing too fancy, just an A/B choice on trap upgrades but it's something. It adds some replayability to the game if it works how I think it does where your currency for upgrades are essentially your star rating for each level.
I think the game needs a solid tutorial before it goes into a full launch. There are some bugs but they're mostly cosmetic. The game felt smooth and there seems to be a lot of space on the map for content. What the game is lacking the most is a way to convey to the player that these systems are in place.
I fear that new players will run a few missions like I did and potentially write the game off as just another wave shooter like I was ready to do. There's more here to do and hopefully with the full game, the devs can get that message to players.
If there's a game you'd like me to check out, feel free to hit me up.
