"Seems like a classic case of beginners luck... #@$& you!" I love the voice lines in this game.

My first thoughts on Blasters of the Universe was that it would be a typical wave shooter without much to offer. After checking the game out I thought it would be more like Ikaruga. It ended up falling somewhere in between.

It plays out very much like your standard wave shooter but its got a bit of a story to it and some weapon customization along with the bullet he'll focus. All together set it apart from its peers in the genre.

I like things with story. There's not much here yet but I like where its going and hope to see more. Only a single cut scene and a single campaign mission with a voice acted intro and random taunts. However... Your nemesis and his voice lines really bring the game to life.

The weapon customization looked really promising at first. Is hoped for some kind of progression system but unfortunately everything is automatically unlocked. Even without progression system, if each campaign can manage to have clever ways to use different builds, I can see it working well.

The game does get pretty hectic if you let enemies pile up. Its less bullet he'll and more quickly kill the things before you get overwhelmed and die. There's an interesting near miss mechanic for racking up high scores but it seems like the optimal thing to do to stay alive is prevent the bullet hell in the first place.

I'm hoping we get access to The Factory sooner rather than later as even with the high production value, it's still a hard sell with such little content to offer. Right now, after you beat the first levels Campaign mode, the only thing left to do is Endless mode. AKA fight for the high score and that's about it.

I'm going to lean on the side of recommended in the hopes that the devs expand on the Campaign mode for now but it's definitely one that will be pretty Boolean for most I think. You'll either love it or hate it.

If there's a game you'd like me to check out, feel free to hit me up.
