Is this the new Android phone to beat? Samsung certainly hopes so.

Check out our full Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra hands-on review: https://www.expertreviews.co.uk/mobile-phones/samsung-galaxy-s24-ultra-review

Kicking things off, Samsung has taken a leaf out of Apple’s book, opting to incorporate a titanium frame. Like the iPhone 15 Pro Max, this titanium finish feels wonderful in the hand, with a slightly rough, granular touch. While it should add some extra durability, it hasn’t made the phone much lighter - at 232g it’s only 2g lighter than last year’s Ultra.

The phone is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Armor glass which Samsung says is up to four times more scratch-resistant than previous variants and should reduce glare by up to 75%.

The curved display is also a thing of the past. Rather than dropping off on the edges, the S24 Ultra’s screen now sits completely flat. We’re not sure it’ll make a huge difference in terms of useability but it does look rather swish in person.

The display itself is a 6.8in QHD+ panel, with an adaptive 1-120Hz refresh rate. That’s no different than last year, but Samsung says the screen brightness has been boosted by up to 40% in adaptive mode, reaching a peak of 2,600 nits.

Samsung also mentioned that the S24 Ultra’s S Pen is new for 2024, but that’s all we know so far.

The phone’s processor is the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy chipset - a specially tweaked version of Qualcomm’s high-end CPU. There’s no word yet on how exactly it differs, or how it will perform in our tests, but watch this space.

As for RAM and storage, you’re getting 12GB of RAM, with the choice of either 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of non-expandable internal storage.

The S24 Ultra has a quad camera setup on the rear, consisting of a 200MP main unit, a 12MP ultrawide, 10MP 3x zoom and a 50MP 5x zoom. Space Zoom is also available, allowing you to hybrid zoom up to 100x.

Finally, software is confirmed to be Android 14 and Samsung’s One UI 6.1. Samsung also confirmed S24 the devices will receive seven years worth of both security and OS updates.

Pricing starts at £1,249 for the 256GB version, running up to £1,349 for the 512GB variant and £1,549 for the 1TB option. However, if you’re quick enough, Samsung will double the storage for free, as long as you preorder before the phone launches on 31 January.
