Heading into the last stretch of the game, the final 21 stars of the game reside in the Special Zone, which is comprised of some interesting (and HARD) levels. Each special level requires a certain amount of stars to enter them; this one requires 16. Also, none of the special zone levels have secret exits.

Speaking of interesting levels, we start the Special Zone with a blast from the past in this retro-style Super Mario Bros.-esque level, complete with the 8-bit music, graphics, enemies and everything. It happens to also alter Mario's sprite directly like level 7-7 did, and it also features those invisible platform tracks like 6-6 did. It may not look like it, but this level also happens to be one of the more difficult levels in all of World 8; that castle section is especially nasty. This is also the only level in the game that contains special "pipe cannons" which fire Mario out at a high speed once they're entered. An interesting level, indeed, and despite how hard it is, it is actually quite fun.

Overworld Section: Autoscrolls, and is quite dangerous. You'll need to time your actions because if you're too slow, you'll get left behind or possibly die.

Underground Section: This area isn't too bad; you'll need to grab the starman to plow through those paratroopas, though, and you need to reach the red ! switchblock to access the pipe that leads to the first star.

Castle Section: A keen eye and quick movements are required to escape this section. If you pause at about 8:12, you should notice that the lava tile above those two coins is slightly lower than all the rest, and is fake lava, so you can fall through, which takes you to the P-switch section. You need to be quick because if you don't make it in time, you're done for. You only get one shot at this part.
