Saturn Valley - EarthBound Map for TF2 - Made with Source Engine Collision Tools
In 2012, I created a Saturn Valley map for TF2. It was one of my earliest 3D projects. Now, over a decade later, I revisited the idea with a highly improved coat of paint. The map is made of entirely custom models, crafted carefully and with love by yours truly. My main purpose for the project was to showcase what my Blender addon, Source Engine Collision Tools, can enable Source mappers to do, while also pushing the engine to its limits.
The terrain in this map is entirely model-based, created in Blender. No Hammer displacements whatsoever. Thanks also to TF2's support for static prop lightmaps, you mostly won't even notice that the terrain is made of models. And thanks to my Blender addon, collision for the large complex terrain pieces was easy to make and add to the map.
Valve might have stopped paying attention to TF2 in recent years, but content creators like me haven't. TF2 isn't dead! As long as we keep making content for it, the game will live on.
