Scaretober 2020: Dread X Collection 2 Ep 3 - Solipsis and Sucker For Love
3Dread X returns with a new collection of a dozen indie horror games, each made in 10 days. You are a victim of a strange cognitovirus that can only be cured with a horrific mental kick. Now you have to play through a dozen VHS tapes, solving challenging puzzles all the while, to get to the end and finally be cured.
Solipsis is about a group of astronauts travelling across the surface of the moon to investigate a series of gravitational anomalies. Then, Sucker For Love follows the story of a person driven literally past the brink of insanity to find someone to love. Big mood.
By the way, Solipsism is a philosophical concept that states that the only consciousness you can be certain of is your own. Any other entity or consciousness around you could potentially be a figment of your imagination; if your mind obfuscates this fact from your awareness, how can you actually be sure? Therefore the implication in my opinion is that the Moon Presence in the game is the only real thing in the universe. Everyone else is a figment of its dream, which is why the protagonist starts to evaporate as it wakes up.
Interesting for this particular double feature, Ln'eta from Sucker for Love specifically states that reality and everyone living in it is part of the dream of her higher consciousness. Therefore when she wakes up, reality as we know it will come to an end just as a consequence of that disturbance. In Ln'eta's case Solipsism is RIGHT, and you play as a figment of HER mind.
Just a fun observation for these two games back-to-back.
