Scott Pilgrim is a series of graphic novels created by comic book artist Bryan Lee O'Malley. The series is about the titular character, a slacker and part-time band member who falls in love with a delivery girl - Ramona Flowers, another major character in the series - but must defeat her seven evil exes in order to date her peacefully.

Originally in circulation from 2004 to 2010 (although colored reprints were made around 2012 to 2014), Scott Pilgrim was subject to several media adaptations, including a live-action movie adaptation released in 2010 ("Scott Pilgrim vs. the World"), a side-scrolling beat-em-up game released as a tie-in to the live-action movie ("Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game"), and an upcoming anime adaptation.

Of course, fan-made games based on the series also exist too. Developed jointly by Ryon and Ultra Fatality, Scott Pilgrim Versus (released around June 2023) is a fangame based on the I.K.E.M.E.N GO engine that pits characters from the Scott Pilgrim series on a proper versus fighting setup. The game achieves this by combining gameplay (and spritework) from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game with standard one-on-one, 2D fighting game gameplay (Ultra Fatality specifically mentioned that the game is combined with a bit of Street Fighter gameplay, but I don't think that even the Alpha series is that fast-paced compared to this game).

The game has two normal attack buttons - Light (X) and Hard (Y) Attacks. Special moves are executed with motion inputs and the Hard Attack button specifically, with EX special moves using their own dedicated button (Z) in lieu of the Hard Attack button. Each character also has a different ability (which is also known as the "Trait" system). Some characters have passive traits which buffs the user if certain requirements are met, while others have an additional ability that could be activated by pressing Z.

You also have various assists ("Strikers"), unique to each character. Most would only have two (Striker A (A) and Striker B (B)), but some characters have three, the third Striker being summonable by pressing the Super (C) button (super attacks here use motion inputs + C). You have up to three bars of meter, with EX special moves using up half a bar, and multiple super attacks that could use one to three bars.

Arcade mode has you face off multiple opponents, with Gideon Graves (the main antagonist of the series) being your final boss. Normally, you fight him twice - once against his playable form and another as the boss-only Super Gideon - but I managed to have my final opponent be Gigadeon. Which is strange, considering that other playthroughs do not have him as the final opponent. Did Ryon and Ultra Fatality sneakily add Gigadeon in some sort of stealth update, or do you need to meet certain requirements beforehand (finishing off your opponents with a super enough times, not using continues, etc)?
