Screamer 2 / Bleifuss 2 (1996) - Every PC Rally Game
Screamer 2 / Bleifuss 2 by Milestone / Virgin, 1996.
The first Screamer game (by Graffiti, before they rebranded as Milestone) riffed off of Sega's Daytona USA or Namco's Ridge Racer. Screamer 2 (aka Bleifuss 2 in Germany) tried to be like Sega Rally Championship, which was hugely popular in the arcade at the time.
When this game first came out, it only supported non-accelerated graphics, but Milestone released a 3Dfx Glide patch for the game when they shipped the sequel (Screamer Rally) in 1997. The patch, however, wasn't perfect, and you can see notable break-up in the track graphics in the distance (it was like this on real 3Dfx hardware too).
The cars in this game are all cars that never really rallied, mostly Japanese sports cars (with a Porsche thrown in). I've also used a few of the (varied) bonus cars (you unlock one each per team in the game).
It is possible to run this game at much higher resolutions using modern Glide wrappers (I'm using nGlide in conjunction with the Daum version of DOSbox), but I've kept it at the original resolution the game came at (with added anti-aliasing!).
