So what we have here is a new and improved version of the Supermodel network. I'm controlling both cars with one pad, I started off using the P1 car, then before reaching the first corner decided to concentrate on controlling P2 instead, because it's cool to use the alternative liveries you don't normally see in 1P mode. The most noticeable difference here is that the Scud Race Beginner Day stage is now no longer buggy and filled with graphical artefacts which crash the game. The network code has also been replaced with TCP which means you can pause the emulation and it won't time out. I think this refers to the fact that now if you close one of the emulators, the other one doesn't immediately hang like it used to.

I turned on the FPS counter and experimented with PPC settings around 50-55mhz. The speed I'm getting here in a 2P Scud Race link is about 25fps, which is actually about the same as it was before, but some users have reported much better speeds in the network now (at present, in order to get the Supermodel network running, you need to disable multithreading on the emulators, which makes them run much slower than if Supermodel used it's default multithreading option, i.e. using all you PC's CPU cores as opposed to only one like it currently has to in network mode). Interestingly though, when I closed the 1P emulator down, now that the other emulator doesn't instantly hang, the 2P one running on it's own suddenly shot up to 50-55fps, even with the '-no-threads' option on. As the default speed here is 25fps, the sound comes out like a garbled mess. I've muted it, sped the video up as if it were playing at the correct speed and added new audio in.

Something interesting abouth playing Scud Race in multiplayer is that the waiting your entry screen has got different music to the normal select your car and course single player game, which oddly isn't in the game's soundtest test menu. I'm just using the normal version here, as far as I'm aware, there's nowhere on the internet to get a video or audio file of this music. I tried recording it myself with one of the multiplayer emulators closed down, but even at around 50fps, the audio was getting a bit distorted.

You can download this network build yourself from here (Thanks to Conversus W. Vans from the Supermodel forum for compiling and sharing):
