Spoiler warning! This game follows the story of the movie pretty closely, so I recommend watching that first. In case you weren't aware, Shin Kamen Rider was just released in English on Amazon Prime Video (as "Shin Masked Rider"...), and much like Shin Godzilla and Shin Ultraman before it, it's great. Check it out!

With that out of the way, SD Shin Kamen Rider Rumble is a beat 'em up tie-in to go along with the movie. It's a pretty simple game. The combat doesn't have much depth to it, you have two different attacks that have one combo each, but you can chain them together with your special moves to keep a constant flow going. The basic enemies are practically just fodder for you to steamroll, but there are a few stronger enemies that have special attacks and a shield you have to break before you're able to stun and combo them. There's also an RPG-style character progression system and roguelike style buffs after each section you clear. This basically just means the game isn't tightly balanced. You can become strong enough to steamroll most of the enemies and bosses, or die quickly and do very little damage without any of the upgrades. I'm not a fan of systems like that, but the game's still fun enough regardless. I enjoyed it, but I'd only recommend it to fans of the movie. It's not that great.

Right now, this game is available on the Switch and PC, but only in Japan and Asia. The PC version is geoblocked, so if you don't live in Asia you won't even be able to find it on the Steam store. Maybe you can buy it with a VPN - I don't know and I wouldn't recommend trying. For the rest of us, you'll have to buy the Asian version (not Japanese) on the Switch if you want to play it in English. That's what I'm playing here, but I'm using the Yuzu emulator with the framerate unlocked to play at 60 fps. It seems to work pretty much perfectly, so that's also an option.

PS. This game also has DLC that lets you play as Shin Ultraman, Shin Godzilla, and Evangelion Unit-01, which is super cool.
