Sea Of Solitude - I Quit After 24 Minutes Of Playing | BRUTALLY HONEST Opinions And Thoughts
I tried playing Sea of Solitude for the first time and couldn't last more than 24 minutes. TLDR: I'm not a fan and I'll never touch this game again. I honestly knew coming in that this would not be my type of game, or genre that I would be super interested in. BUT -- I'm a current Origin Premier subscriber and figured why not? It couldn't hurt to try it out since it's practically part of my subscription and wouldn't cost me any money to try it.
Note that this quasi review is my personal opinion only. You may have a different experience.
Well -- I wasn't too disappointed, but that's because I wasn't expecting much coming in. I had the impression that the game would be more storytelling-based, visual novel-ish, with most activities being puzzle-like.
Literally just in the main lobby screen, I was surprised that mouse control isn't enabled. Really? Why wouldn't mouse control be enabled? Minor issue, sure -- but not something that would be overlooked by a great game.
The initial message by Cornelia Geppert sounds like something from the start of a book. This isn't a book though; it's a video game. I could've started the game without it.
Getting into the gameplay, the controls are really clunky. Changing directions feels like you're overcompensating whichever way you decide to go.
First real issue is with the clear corruption puzzle / activity. It literally says to hold E to clear the corruption. I definitely held E and it didn't do anything for awhile.
Second issue is when Kay is just screaming and the only directions are the word focus with the mouse icon. I get that my hand shouldn't be held every step of the way, but really? That vague? For someone who isn't really into the game, this was extremely frustrating. Not only that, but I didn't even know that I had to point the light beam towards the monster by moving the mouse. Thanks, google.
Okay, cool. Puzzle-ish right? Fine. Moving on to the next part, the directions want you to hold the up arrow to focus on the monster. The monster is the big fish looking thing. I held the up arrow on my keyboard and nothing happened. I even tried to change my keybindings so that I was using another key to fulfill this requirement. I honestly don't know if I was doing it wrong or not, but nevertheless it was frustrating. I didn't have the patience to ask my friend google this time and simply proceeded to quit the game.
This game is retailing for about $20 USD. I probably would only pay like $3-5 for this game. I honestly was not a fan, but you may have a different experience. Maybe I didn't get too deep into the story to actually enjoy the game, but can you really blame me? Controls were poor. Directions were unclear and vague. Voice acting sounds like it was done by an amateur. That's it for my honest opinions and review for this game.
Try it at your own risk. Or stay away -- which I'll be doing.
