Subject: Operation Cold Stone - Part 5
Date: 25 Oct , 1996 Weather: 2° C - freezing rain - slight fog.
20:00 hrs Local Time
SITUATION: Namalsk, a forgotten and thought abandoned Soviet Bloc mining colony has been brought to our attention after receiving a radio transmission from one Mitya Borisov, a former Soviet Colonel stationed on the islands. The information we gathered was brief, but has since been verified. The acting military leaders refused orders of dissolution during the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, and instead opted to cut all contact with the outside world. For 5 years Soviet soldiers stationed on the island were told the Cold War war was ongoing and had turned nuclear, they were given the impression the mainland world had been destroyed and banned all contact outside of the region for fear of further retaliatory strikes. The ranking Major General Klavdii Kulikov enacted martial law over the civilian miner populace and began purging those critical of his orders throughout his ranks. Rumor of the war being over had circulated among the lower enlisted and those loyal to Col. Borisov began preparations for their coup over the past 3 years, dubbing themselves the NRF (Namalsk Revolutionary Forces) they have over the past few weeks been able to capture the whole South Eastern island and secured the long range radio equipment they used to make contact with the American mainland.
MISSION: With the supply depot demolished we have severely crippled the supply lines on the Western island. The explosion has signals the NRF to begin their strike and they have been engaged for the past couple hours. Progress through the enemy defenses has been slow and we are making use of this distraction to again strike the hydroelectric DAM being used to power most of the island. Expect strong, yet distracted forces present on the DAM. How we proceed to the DAM is up to the team.
MISSION & EXECUTION
During lasts nights raid, a USMC AV-8B Harrier, callsign Knight 2-1 was shot down by the ZSU-23 near the Dam. The aircraft was completely destroyed and crashed into the Arctic waters. The pilot, Captain Jacob Winters, is believed to be alive due to a radio call after his aircraft was hit. Captain Winters has not made radio contact and is presumed to have been captured as he floated down on his parachute just north of the Sebjan Dam. Intel believes the pilot is being held at one of two locations. Find him and bring him home. A US Navy SH-60 Seahawk will be on standby to extract him once you rescue him.
