This is a video of me fighting the first boss in Secret of Evermore: the big bug Thraxx.

Being the first boss, he's pretty easy. The claws are easy to avoid, and pose the biggest threat when the boy is inside the ribcage, oddly enough. Killing them yields extra experience and money, but they're a pain to hit without a ranged attack, so it's best to just ignore them. The maggots dropping from the sky constantly can be annoying, but the dog handles them easily. He randomly knocks both the boy and the dog backwards for small damage, and always after attacking the heart. Probably the deadliest thing he can do is the Acid Rain alchemy. It can really screw them over if you let them get low on health. It's a shame the spell isn't as effective once you learn it shortly after the fight.

Hitting his ribcage 3 or so times opens it, allowing our hero to go in and whack his heart. Flash or Hard Ball can work well and let the boy damage Thraxx's heart any time, but leveling alchemy is expensive at this point and neither of those spells is very useful in the long run. After taking so much damage, Thraxx's ribcage seems to stay open permanently, leaving his heart completely vulnerable.

I could have gotten the Bone Crusher to level 3 and thoroughly cleaned Thraxx's clock, but I wasn't about to spend a ton of time leveling it when I get two weapons superior to it shortly.

Also, I dunno why, but maggots stopped falling midway through the fight. That's not supposed to happen. I guess it was just a glitch.
