Here dies Magmar, the final boss of the Prehistoric area in Secret of Evermore.

He's not too hard. He has some damaging attacks that can be tricky to avoid, but low HP -- especially when compared to Salabog. Magmar will start by jumping out of the lava and rolling towards you, then spit a stream of fireballs aimed straight at your face. He also spits them into the air, which fall down on you a few seconds later. Additionally, sometimes he counters with Heat Wave, a very damaging attack that hits both characters and can't be avoided. This is his strongest move, and can be deadly if he casts it after you've taken a few hits and haven't had a chance to heal up. It's a good thing he doesn't use it often. When he's not shooting fireballs, he'll roll around the screen trying to hit you and occasionally jump into the lava, which will heal him a little and prevent you from attacking him until he re-emerges.

The key is to stay moving to dodge the fireballs and rolls. A Lv. 3 spear is probably the weapon you want to use because its range allows you stay out of reach of his rolling attack and gives you time to avoid the fireballs. It's also a good idea to keep your health above 50 to survive an unexpected Heat Wave.

All in all, not a difficult fight despite his knack for laying down a lot of hurt. Enjoy the video!

Edit: I totally flubbed this guy's name. I mixed up this boss, Magmar, with a later boss, Megataur. I didn't confuse the two fights, just the name. My bad!
