Here I'm fighting Salabog, a big, ugly snake boss encountered early in Secret of Evermore. This beastie holds a special place in the bottom of my heart, listed under things that made me want to chuck my SNES out the window when I was a kid. See, I didn't realize I could throw my spear if I leveled it up, so I was trying to hit him up close; something that doesn't work well with this boss.

He doesn't actually do much. After taking damage, he goes under water and resurfaces in a different area, spitting out several wisps to annoy you and doing moderate damage if the blast hits you directly. The wisps don't really hurt that bad. Their sole purpose is to get in your way on the narrow walkways, and they're good at it. If you get in melee range, Salabog will bite at you, making it really difficult to fight him hand to hand. The best way to do it is to throw a charged up spear at him. He has a hefty number of hit points. Even with me doing well over 100 damage a hit -- up to 200 at times -- it still took me a while to kill him.

In short: easy boss if you level the spear, incredibly frustrating if you don't. Enjoy the video!
