SECTION9 - Strife's Sanctum Podcast #36 - Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex
This week's anime review is a doozy: an all-time classic movie, turned into an all-time classic series. I was originally going to do episodes on both seasons, but I managed to squeeze a longer runtime out and get details on both instead. I imagine GITS will be a gold mine franchise to dig in many, many times in the future.
As it is, I wanted to begin with what I feel was the gold standard this series put out. A methodical thinkpiece, more concerned with the hows instead of whys. There is gritty action yes, but much like the Matrix it inspired, Ghost in the Shell is more concerned with looking and feeling rather than doing. It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but this show in particular stands head and shoulders above many for me. That comes to down to a very strong cast of characters, a unique sci-fi aesthetic, and the look and feel of something almost...inhuman.
