Sekiro farming: gunpowder (Gun Fort)
For farming in general, you'll want the following tools for maximum efficiency:
* Golden Vortex: Double drops
* Ceremonial Tanto: More emblems
* Bloodsmoke, Gachiin: Stealth makes things much smoother and safer. Bloodsmoke gives you more insurance when farming Lone Shadows and Gun Fort, and Gachiin invis comes in handy when farming the greater part of Mibu Manor to stay safe from nobles and their old age debuff.
As far as I can tell this is the best route to get black and yellow gunpowder. It's three high value enemies and a fourth with almost as good of a drop pool, clustered right next to each other, and you can even sprint back to the idol right afterwards to reset the area. I don't think other options for these mats are better return:
* You could farm more of the gunners here before resetting the area, but that probably loses out on drops per second vs this one.
* The cannoneers at the Ashina Depths poison pool are spread farther apart, and give less exp and sen. The ones at Gun Fort probably? have a better drop rate for the higher-level mats.
This drop pool also includes a shot at Fulminated Mercury, but you're better off treating that as a bonus surplus on your way to 50ish black gunpowder. The late game Inner Ministry farm on the Severance Ending path is far better for Mercury.
Procedure:
1. Fan and backstab the first cannoneer. I use bloodsmoke here to get more consistent aggro manipulation for enemy positions.
2. Fan and backstab the second cannoneer. Dash up activation tends to be more consistent than activate - dash up - fan, since it's more likely to avoid aggro'ing the gunner up top.
3. Duck under the wooden platform to knife up and grapple up to hit the last two drop targets in sequence.
The alarm lady drops Antidote Powder and has a chance of dropping fat wax, if you need those.
