The basement is optional, but has some loot.
While the party manages to free Gloria from the mercenaries, they still have the party surrounded. However, the wind crystal glows and takes Seth to another space. If you don't run to the light in time, you get a game over for some reason. With this, Seth is now a Hero of Light.
15:18 Boss: Selene & Dag (Hard)
You get a tutorial on using special skills available for crystal chosen characters. Seth can use his special to deal heavy damage to an enemy and buff the party. However, like in previous games, the buff duration is based on real time, so you need to think quickly and increased the battle speed.
I took down Selene first to prevent her from healing and buffing, but Dag still hits hard enough to oneshot Gloria, who didn't benefit from grinding due to joining very recently. Fortunately, Sloan can carry us for this fight.

Selene and Dag revert to their "Freelancer" outfits after losing their White Mage and Vanguard asterisks, and then retreat.
I did some grinding offscreen to master the Freelancer class in order to obtain the JP passives.
25:33 Halcyonia
There's a ship "minigame" that's similar to Berseria's, except that it relies on in-game time rather than the system clock. Unlike the Switch version, the timer is shorter to compensate for the lack of sleep mode.
The next step is to go to Savalon, where we can find the water crystal.
You can pick up some more quests, and they seem to be different between day and night.

There's a talking monster, Truff, who needs us to help find his friend's ring. There's also a weak enemy mob that wants to steal the ring.
1:09:08 Boss: Fenrir (Hard)
This should be easier than the mercenary duo if you progressed far enough in the Vanguard class. However, the boss can still use an AOE that inflicts a dread ailment, which locks your BP to 0.
