Now we play Yukimura's Gaiden Story, which has 3 unique battles all to himself, but they're kind of on the short side. They are, however, pretty damn funny. Yukimura has to conquer several challenges in the Takeda Dojo, including fighting off some unknown assailants that you could never possibly recognize. Ever.

The first stage has us fight 100 enemies as our first objective. After that, Shingen will rally the troops and hilariously this actually rallies Yukimura as well, automatically triggering Sengoku Drive for you. You then have to defeat the 100 enemies all over again, now with some stronger troops thrown in. Finally, we have to fight the mysterious challenger Sky Fox Mask. He fights like Sasuke for some reason, I guess they got lazy and just decided to make him a clone.

I'd like to make special mention of when you defeat him, the gate opening cutscene is literally just knocking him through the door. It's so abrupt lol. We can then proceed to the next area, where we have to fight Yukimura Sanada. This is actually Sky Fox Mask in disguise. He actually spends the fight saying some of Yukimura's famous lines. Once we defeat the fake, Sky Fox Mask will appear at half health and will trigger another phase once he gets to 25%. Then he'll transform into a common peon and blend in with a crowd of them, forcing you to attack at random until you find the right one. Then you can finally drain the last of his health bar and win the stage.

The 2nd stage introduces another new foe, Fire Man Mask. After a few regular enemies to fight, we'll encounter a spike trap room. We have to progress across the floor while the spikes are down and hop on the platforms when they come up. You can actually see Fire Man Mask watching us as we go through this area if you look up high for him. Once we reach the gong and hit it, enemies will start to come in and we have some mooks to defeat. The spike trap will reactivate shortly after it, there seems to be some technically difficulties regarding that, and it will hurt both you and the enemies on ground level.

We then go to an area that's like...a sort of mini-game. It's basically whack-a-mole. You want to hit as many gold moles as possible and avoid black ones, because they subtract from your score. Yes I know they aren't moles, I'm still calling them that. There's some multi-layered blue ones that you can get a lot of hits on, but after they are all struck a black one appears in its place, so you don't want to combo too much. It doesn't really matter what score you get for this, so this is more for fun than anything.

Finally, we end this battle with an electric cage match against Fire Man Mask himself. The electric walls will hurt you for a decent chunk of HP and send you flying upon contact. The good news is that you can also knock Fire Man Mask into them and hurt him the same way. Once he's defeated, it's revealed that it was actually Shingen. I don't know about you, but I was stunned at this revelation.

The third and final stage is a fight inside a magma filled cavern that the Takeda apparently just have. After defeating a few peons, Sasuke will appear to attack us. After defeating him, Shingen will JUMP OUT OF THE FUCKING LAVA and also attack us. Once he reaches 50% HP, he and Sasuke do a tag team maneuver that results in 3 clones of Shingen appearing. They're much weaker, but it can be challenging to fight 4 non-generic officers at once. If you defeat 2 of the clones and get one to 50% HP, then Sasuke will reappear at 50% HP. Then you just need to beat both of them to finish this final trial.

This story was a lot of fun, and it was so good the anime also included it in an OVA. In the anime, they also roped Masamune and Kojuro into this, so that was a lot of fun. I recommend checking it out.
