0Let's see about circling around the northern continent, hopefully without the expedition wiping out like it did the first time I tried that.

That worked out pretty well! Even taking into account having another random disaster effect (half the food spoiling) happen for the first time. The northern continent map is now mostly filled in, we've made first contact with the Incan capital, and every exploration category is just about double what it was at the end of the last session. The crown remains difficult to please, though, still rating our results "poor" overall after all that.
Manpower continues to dwindle at an alarming pace, though. What began as an expedition of 125 men returned to port with only 25 remaining. Someone needs to give these guys some basic survival lessons before sending them into the field!
And it seems that terrain discoveries (rivers, jungles, etc.) only count once. If you don't make it back to port to register the discovery, nothing special happens if you go back there again, and credit for the discovery is apparently lost forever. So check back in often, and be careful about exploring when your chances of making it back in one piece are questionable!
