Shape of the Southern Sea 南海水形 (Original) [Audio] (二胡 Erhu String Quartet) [Stringanza]
Shape of the Southern Sea is a romantic portrait of water, the very element that life depends upon, and all civilizations revolve around. Water gives and consumes life, it takes all kinds of forms and shapes. With such a power, many cultures have since spoken of great water deities, from Neptune to the Dragon King. However, few continue to hold as much reverence and fascination as the one and only Nyai Roro Kidul, known as the Queen of the Southern Sea in Sundanese and Javanese mythology.
While painting a portrait of water, this work pays tribute to the Queen, a figure so enigmatic and intriguing. Channeling her power to will the sea to take any shape she desires, the piece shifts from state to state, starting from icy, mysterious stillness, to a flowing hypnotic trance with undulating currents, to torrential outbursts and crashing waves.
