Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux - Low Level (Expert) - Mithras
-This will be done on a New Game/Cycle 1 and I will be aiming for New Law/New Neutral ending.
-Random encounters will be completely avoided unless I am fighting an unidentified demon I wish to recruit later on (but not all demons will be recruited, meaning I don't have to fight every time I see an unidentified enemy).
-March to Death will be turned off for bosses.
-Macca/Item farming will be as minimal as possible, with me only picking up field items or receiving them from demons I'm talking with to escape from fights.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Fuckkkkkkk this fight. Why is this the second major boss of the game? All four of his moves are obnoxious and all have the potential to kill your run:
Mabufudyne - Has a move you don't get till the high 50s/low 60s alright cool. Even at max defense/low defense, it does pretty disgusting damage without a resistance, and I was pretty afraid I wouldn't survive this fight without the Ice Armor. I survive, but I need to keep at least 3/5 of my HP at all times just in case of it. I brought a bunch of resist Ice demons for this fight, so they take pretty miniscule damage from the move, especially with topped off defense, but this doesn't protect them from the other moves. Even then, the damage adds up, and since I didn't have Media, it was a nightmare to keep everybody healthy.
Light of Order - Alright cool, guaranteed death. Is this move scripted? It feels like it comes out at scripted moments. If it kills someone while you're already down a man, the fight is likely unwinnable at that point. If it doesn't, you have to either shrug it off and summon a replacement (I'm limited on all resources as is) or waste two different turns reviving and summoning them back at only half health without defense buffs.
Rampage - Can be the most OR the least threatening move. Sometimes you get lucky and it only does a single hit to the one with the most health, or you get unlucky and everybody gets hit or worse, MC gets hit four times and instantly bites the dust. Another nightmare to keep everybody healthy if it hits everybody.
Waking Dream - Unblockable damage, but thankfully light. You wanna know why it does low damage? It's because it also has a super high rate of casting Strain, which eats through MP as bad as poison chews through HP. The RNG surrounding this move sets a very restricting time limit that will cause you to very quickly lose the war of attrition if you don't cleanse important demons or kill Mithras real soon.
All and all, all these moves together combine to make one bullshit boss. Strain forces a really strict time limit that completely kills your ability to turtle. You HAVE to aggro out and just mash Co-Ops on him as much as you possibly can in as little turns as possible. You can use Chakra Drops as a little blanket of safely, but they don't help too much. I had to do a lot of fusing around to pick up a full team of Garu demons and ended up wasting a lot of sources. I'm glad I had a full party of neutral demons, because three lvl3 Co-Ops allowed me to melt him before he murdered me. Still, it seems I got lucky as hell for this run? He barely used Mabufudyne, Rampage didn't do too much, and Strain didn't proc at multiple critical points. If I was able to get the Wind Shotgun, this fight probably would have been done even sooner, but I was able to survive without it and the Ice Armor. It sucks that I'm still on the default Fire Rifle, but at least the next two bosses are weak to fire. I really hope I can summon a demon soon with Media out of the box because it's getting really obnoxious spamming shitty Medicine.
