Short stories are not a stepping stone to novels
Back in the day the sage industry advice was to write shorts to build cred before submitting novels to publishers. This hasn't been true for about a decade, due to the decline of the short fiction market. In this video, I go over a few other reasons why you should just write what you want to write.
