Here is the offense and defense for Mar Geri #1 from the Kihon Ippon series in Shotokan Karate. The offense side steps back into position and the proceeds with a front snap kick to their opponent’s mid-section, kicking with the ball of the foot.

The defense side does a downward block, blocking with the arm directly across their opponent’s leg (you will use your left arm to block their right leg, as an example), followed by a reverse punch.
