Shotokan Karate - Kihon Ippon #3 Mae Geri (Front Snap Kick) tutorial by Paul Gale Network
http://www.PaulGaleNetwork.com
Here is the offense and defense for Mae Geri #3 from the Kihon Ippon series in Shotokan Karate. The offense side steps back into position and then proceeds with a front snap kick to the opponent’s mid-section, kicking with the ball of the foot.
The defense side does a downward block going almost 45° out to the left (if blocking an opponent’s right leg front snap kick) or approximately to the 8 position. In this case, it’s the left leg that steps back and the right arm that performs the block.
Then, shift your right leg back, simultaneously shooting your left hand forward, wrist bent up and pulling back your right arm to waist height. Follow this up with stepping in with your right leg and performing an elbow strike with your right arm. (Meanwhile, your left hand typically goes back to your left hip, but can also be used to clench an opponent/connect your left hand with your right elbow when practicing alone.)
