Shrine's Legacy Demo Playthrough - SNES Style Action RPG to Collect Elemental Gems and Defeat Evil
12A full playthrough of Shrine's Legacy demo that strives to emulate the style of SNES action RPGs like Zelda and Secret of Mana. An ancient demon returns and your ancestral blade is the key to defeating it once you obtain all the elemental power gems to reach maximum power. With a mysterious partner who helps you after making an incredible first impression via theft, Rio sets out to prove he's a hero and save the world.
This seems to capture the graphics and music of SNES games pretty well. Gameplay is pretty good (seems to follow in the vein of other upcoming games of gaining magic to manipulate the environment and solve puzzles), although I rather wish the dodge mechanic could be bound to a single button prompt than double tapping. Your partner is sometimes dumb with dodging enemies to the point you probably will ignore them if you aren't using two player mode.
These sorts of games don't always have the most amazing or original of stories but admittedly it feels a bit generic here and there's some headscratchers with the plot. If Aklor is trying to destroy the Sword of Shrine (and presumably can do so) why not destroy the gems instead of scattering them about (or if they're indestructible keep them all in a more secure place), thus ensuring the one weapon that can defeat you never gains full power. Aklor also seems to be pretty ineffectual a villain since he doesn't even destroy your beloved peasant village or hold anyone hostage, just mildly force chokes your love interest. Lastly, I find the situation at 26:42 where Aklor says he can faintly sense the sword but goes in the opposite direction when it's ten feet away to be a bit silly.
Even despite those issues with the plot hopefully the game will be further improved, as I'm a sucker for these sorts of nostalgic games.
