Shroom And Gloom - DEMO - Full Playthrough Of A New Deckbuilding Roguelite Coming Soon! AWESOME GAME
Shroom and Gloom is a deckbuilding roguelike game coming soon to Steam. It is being developed by Team Lazerbeam, and published by none other than the AWESOME ‪@DevolverDigital‬ It does NOT have an official release date yet, but after Googling it, it seems likely it will be late 2025 or early 2026. You can find it on Steam (and download the Demo) at: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3271280/Shroom_and_Gloom/
Ok, first off, I have to mention how impressed I am with Devolver Digital lately. I have ALWAYS been a fan of their games, but lately, they have been crushing it! I just finished playing Look Outside very recently (there are videos on my channel if anyone is interested in an AMAZING horror turn-based RPG), and then I find this game by browsing Steam looking for my next game to play.
WOW, right off the bat I was hooked by the visuals. The colors and atmosphere of the game are so appealing! I have played a few deckbuilding card battler games, but they aren't my usual go-to type of roguelite game. I am more into games like Enter the Gungeon in that regard (which is also a GREAT Devolver Digital game, and what got me interested in them as a gaming company), but after playing Shroom and Gloom, I think I may be putting QUITE a few hours into this once it launches!
Reading the description of the game on Steam, I was intrigued by what "Double-deckbuilder" meant. Well, what it means is that you have 2 different decks, one that you can use while exploring the world, and the other while in combat. Cards while exploring the world consist of things like healing items, digging for weapons, and opening doors/chests. In combat, your deck changes to things like (obviously) attacks, buffs and passives. This is a really interesting and fun mechanic, as both decks have synergy between the cards.
Using cards costs Energy, which is on the left side of the screen. You have Energy for both decks, allowing you to utilize a certain amount of actions during both exploration as well as combat. Want to place a Practice Dummy while exploring to upgrade an attack card? It costs Energy. Want to make an action during combat? It costs Energy. This forces you to balance what you do in battles as well as in-between battles. Do you want to heal up, or maybe dig for some new weapons/attack cards? Plan ahead and use your energy wisely!
The synergy with each deck was so fun to play with! I focused on a combat deck that gave me healing items or drew cards when I killed an enemy. I coupled this with an attack card called Scavenger Blade that I went full in on to be my main damage dealer. By using a Practice Dummy after most fights, I was able to make the Scavenger Blade an absolute nightmare, dealing insane amounts of damage twice, making the target vulnerable, increasing in damage anytime I ate, AND having a cost of ZERO energy! On top of this, I had a passive which allowed me to draw a card when I killed an enemy, so if Scavenger Blade was my only card in the draw pool, I instantly got it back! This made short work of the Demo boss!
Long story short, do I recommend the game? ABSOLUTELY! The Demo made me want the full game within minutes of playing it, and I honestly cannot wait until it comes out. I Wishlisted it the second I exited after playing, and if you like games in this genre, I would say that you should as well!
