Shura no Mon is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masatoshi Kawahara. It was serialized in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine from April 1987 to November 1996. The individual chapters were collected and published into 31 tankobon volumes published between October 1987 and May 1997. Shura no Mon received the 1990 Kodansha Manga Award for the shonen category.
A prequel series, Mutsu Enmei Ryu Gaiden: Shura no Toki also ran in Monthly Shonen Magazine, premiering in July 1989 and running until November 2005. Its chapters were published in 15 tankobon volumes by Kodansha. It was adapted into a 26-episode anime series by Media Factory and Studio Comet that aired from April 6, 2004 until September 28, 2004 and is licensed for release in North America by Media Blasters.
Legends tell of an invincible martial art known as Mutsu Enmei-Ryu, an unarmed style that allows the user to defeat any number of armed opponents using incredible speed and strength. This is the story of three generations of those who bear the name Mutsu, and their encounters and battles with the strongest fighters of their era.
The story is about Mutsu Tsukumo, a young and normal looking youth who challenges great foes to prove that his style of fighting is the best in the world. His Ryuha, or fighting style is called Mutsu Enmei Ryu. A style that is said to have never lost in its 1000 year history. Tsukumo not yet a perfect fighter also increases his strength as the story progresses.
The game was panned by Famitsu, that rated it 12 out of 40 (3/3/4/2) and called it a "kusoge".[1] They criticized the game to be too simple, for not natural action, for the terrible music and graphics, for the long loading times, and they questioned if the game is really finished.
