[Synopsis]

This game was originally released in 2001, and a more updated version was released in 2004. The one released in 2001 was published by Infrogrames, and the one released in 2004 was published by 2K Games. The developer for both games were by Firaxis games which was founded by Sid Meier.

I played this game in 2001 on a Pentium III 800 MHZ, and on a Pentium IV 1.8 GHZ based computer after 2002. Sid Meier's Civilization is the type of game that never gets old. It is like Tetris, or the Simcity series. Every game is different, because of so many factors.

Civ 3 is very much like Civilization 2 in terms of layout of the game, but it added a new feature where you had to have strategic resources to produce facilities and military units. You could get strategic resources by mining it out of the ground, and having the means of transporting via roads, raids, and ports. You could get these resources by trading for it with your neighbors. Units like tanks require oil, infantry require rubber, some even require a combination of resources, like aluminum and oil for jet aircraft.

In Civilization 3, you have new governments, like feudalism, and fascism which wasn't on the two previous games. Each government has different policies, and different advantages. If you have a large civilization, Communism or Democracy would be better, because the level of corruption in Communism is the same across the board regardless of the distance from the capitol city. In a Democracy, you have the least amount of corruption. This game doesn't allow you to enact policies to get the most out of your civilization, like Civilization V and Civilization VI. Culture points don't exist in this game, the most important thing in this game is keeping people happy by building city improvements, like temples, cathedrals, colosseums, etc. Depending on the government, you can make unhappy people content by using military units to suppress discontent, like in Despotism, Monarchy, Feudalism, Communism, and Fascism. This works up to a point, let's say 5 military units can suppress 5 discontent people in a Monarchy.

Civilization III doesn't use 3d rendering, the graphics engine is very much like Civilization II's graphics engine. The new features, like strategic resources does make the game more challenging, and you have to be resourceful to succeed in this game. The Sid Meier's Civilization franchise is timeless in that, they can always release a new version with updated features to make the gaming experience more unique than the last.
