Silent Hill 1 (Part 2/4) playthrough [PS1] (Stream Archive, Unedited)
0As I continued my playthrough (livestreamed on Twitch) of Konami's PS1 survival horror title Silent Hill (which took place live on my Twitch stream in early October 2021), I braved my way through the fog & otherworld darkness and was quickly reminded of the roots of mainstream survival horror in gaming. In a lot of ways the retro look & feel takes a "less is more" approach because it helps the mind make its own connections as to what something may look or feel like! It was super fun to re-experience the game for the first time in years.
It also reminded me that Konami absolutely helped grow interest in survival horror (along with Capcom and the Resident Evil Franchise) and it's awesome to see how both series diverged and took different approaches to psychological horror & gore horror. And that's just scratching the surface as both companies had other games that lived on the Playstation 1 platform (Castlevania, Dino Crisis, and so many more!). The mid-to-late 90's and early 2000's really helped move the survival horror genre forward in gaming.
