Was the latest reveal of Silent Hill 2 Remake good or bad?
I will say that I am more interested in the game after the showcase, a bit more faith was earned, but some things are once again very puzzling.
It felt like watching the game at different states of development. Some looked so high polished while other places looked terrible.
Take James, for example. His character model keeps changing from good looking to this weird dough face, like in my thumbnail. Then you have Maria...does Team Bloober not understand that Maria is NOT real? She is the manifestation of James's sexual frustrations, the idealized Mary. She is supposed to be very appealing to men, that is her design & purpose. Then we look at her outfit, she is business casual on a Friday. Then there is Angela...I think I don't need to say anything about how dirty they did her character model. Even Maria has that low hanging Cherubim jaw that DEI games love to ruin women with. But then we have Laura, the child. Her facial features look the most realistic out of everybody, which makes her instantly stand out, but it's all jarring because they ALL have this weird PS3 hair that looks awful. Awful!
How James encounters the 1st monster to obtain his Radio is not at all how it happens in the new version, which once again leads me to ask, How much of the game has Team Bloober actually played? Are they going by memory or description from a script?
I know I am coming off very negatively about the new game, but there are things I do like about it. The world looks amazing, photo realistic but just enough that it still looks like a video game, which I think is perfect. Too realistic would break emersion IMO. The monsters are for the most part great, especially the Nurses & Angela's Nightmare. The atmosphere seem like it will be a very tense game at times, but the weapons system from what I have seen, like the SHOTGUN lol is a weird choice unless it's a New Game Plus reward.
Ultimately, I think it will be a good Silent Hill game, but it is far from a "FAITHFUL RECREATION" I see it more like a reimagining.
