*– GAME OVERVIEW –*
_Skate or Die!_ for the Nintendo Entertainment System is a collection of skateboarding mini-games. It was ported by Konami (now Konami Digital Entertainment – a company within the Konami Group), and published by Ultra Games in North America and Palcom Software in Europe. The game was released in North America in December 1988 and in Europe on August 17, 1990.
Konami set up Ultra Games – a shell company and publishing label – as a subsidiary of Konami of America in an effort to circumvent Nintendo of America's then-strict licensing rules for the North American market. In Europe, Konami created Palcom Software for similar purposes.
This version has also been made available for the Nintendo Virtual Console (VC) service, namely:
- Wii – Region: Europe – Release Date: December 21, 2007
• Developer Electronic Arts first brought _Skate or Die!_ to the Commodore 64 (C64) home computer in 1987.
◦ It is Electronic Arts's first in-house game. All of their previous titles had been made by independent contractors.
◦ Electronic Arts hired former Epyx programmers to create a video game that could capitalize on the success of the Epyx "Games" series – [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXeuWoBp40mmPaL5o2OZqZidMkKjKbzyK].
◦ In addition to being ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System, the game was also adapted for various Western home computers.
• The following five events are included in _Skate or Die!:_ Ramp, High Jump, Downhill, Jam and Pool Joust.
◦ Rodney Recloose, a wild man with a blue mohawk, a Marine Corps tattoo and a facial resemblance to comedian Rodney Dangerfield, runs the Skate Shop – [as seen at 02:30].
• Kouji Murata – best known for his many works at Konami – is the sound designer for the NES version of _Skate or Die!._
• _Skate or Die!_ has spawned several sequels, including the winter-themed _Ski or Die,_ which retains the multi-event format, and _Skate or Die 2: The Search for Double Trouble,_ an action-adventure game.
