*– GAME OVERVIEW –*
_Galaxian_ for the Famicom Disk System is a fixed-screen shoot 'em up (shmup). The game was ported by Namco (now Bandai Namco Entertainment) and published by Namcot (now Bandai Namco Entertainment). It was released in Japan on November 29, 1990, via the Famicom Disk Writer service and never made it to retail stores.
Namco established Namcot to act as its console game division.
• _Galaxian_ began as a coin-operated video game for the Japanese arcade (AC) market. Developed and published by Namco, it was released on September 15, 1979.
◦ The game was designed by company engineer Kazunori Sawano.
◦ It is Namco's first shoot 'em up (and third video game overall), and the answer to _Space Invaders_ (1978) – a similar space shooter – released by rival developer Taito.
◦ The title was a critical and commercial success, and to keep up with demand, Namco licensed other companies – including Taito – to produce cabinets.
• In the absence of an official story, _Galaxian's_ attract mode offers a brief scenario that reads: _"MISSION: DESTROY ALIENS. WE ARE THE GALAXIANS"._
◦ In 2011, the _United Galaxy Space Force_ (or _UGSF)_ series was created, retconning many of the previously unrelated Namco games (such as _Galaxian)_ into a single continuity.
• The success of _Galaxian_ led to several sequels and reimaginings, most notably _Galaga (ギャラガ)_ (1981), which surpassed the original in popularity.
• _Galaxian's_ Famicom Disk System port was a budget re-release of the Famicom version (1984).
