*– VIDEO INTRODUCTION –*
This playthrough shows:
• a no-lose run with Hikyaku (or Courier Man) on the normal difficulty level.
To access the secret characters – Kuroko, Hikyaku and Amakusa – press SELECT three times – [as noted at 54:21] – on the third screen of the opening sequence – [at 00:34]. A chime will sound if the code was entered correctly.
When Hikyaku is selected as the fighting character, no items will be thrown during a battle.
The timestamps for each opponent can be found at the bottom of the video description box.
*– GAME OVERVIEW –*
_Samurai Shodown_ for the Game Boy is a 2D fighter. The game was ported by Tamsoft and published by Takara (now Takara Tomy). It was released in Japan on June 30, 1994, in North America in November 1994 and in Europe in 1994.
The Japanese Game Boy version of _Samurai Shodown_ is part of the _Nettou (熱闘,_ lit. _Dead Heat Fighters)_ series; a collection of Takara's simplified fighting game ports from many different developers and franchises.
• _Samurai Shodown_ began as a coin-operated video game for the SNK Neo Geo MVS (Multi Video System). Developed and published by SNK, it was released worldwide on July 7, 1993.
◦ The Game Boy port includes all twelve characters (and three secret ones) – albeit super deformed (chibi) – music tracks (in scaled-down form), stages and most of the special moves, but has no combos, fatalities or voices.
• In _Samurai Shodown,_ Shiro Tokisada Amakusa – slain by the Shogunate – is resurrected as a mad and vengeful spirit by the dark god Ambrosia. Driven by hatred, he unleashes his powers to bring chaos to the world.
◦ A variety of samurai – some historical, some fictional – converge on the source of the chaos, each driven by their own reasons.
• The "Secret Character" code introduced in _Samurai Shodown_ is used by some other games in the _Nettou_ series to unlock characters.
