In today's video I show off some new PENCILS and talk about ways I deal with drawing a face with symmetry when drawing traditionally. I have a bad habit of slanting my work from one side to another. It's rough but there are some things we can do to combat this problem.

5 Basic Tips -

1. Flip the work. Either with a mirror or with your phone. You can even hold it up backwards against a bright light or a light table.
2. Draw horizontal and vertical lines as needed. Basically create a grid pattern to check certain areas that you tend to slant. Eyes, mouths, etc.
3. Measure from side to side. This can really help if you are like me and you tend to make one eye bigger than the other. Plus, you can get really good with closing one eye and holding your pencil up like a cool painter dude! ;)
4. Cover up parts of your art with a sheet of paper and slowly reveal the problem areas. This can work for symmetry and it can work for a bad area in the art in general. For some reason it tends to all blend together but once you expose individual areas, you tend to see the flaws more clearly.
5. Take breaks from the art and rest your eyes. Sometimes we just need to get away from the art for a few hours or even a day, then the flaws become more apparent...sometimes!
