Skip the Sage's Trials in Secret of Mana (SNES) - A Wild Glitch Appears! #secretofmana
581In Secret of Mana for the SNES, there's a fairly easy trick you can abuse to jump past the stalagmites in Sage Joch's... cave? Is it his house? Either way, you can pass a barrier you're not supposed to, and this allows you to skip Sage Joch's Trials, which would normally take you like an hour of gameplay if you know where you're going.
Sage Joch (who thinks he's fooling you by calling himself Jehk at first) requires your party to complete the Shadow Temple, the Gold Tower, and some other thing I can't remember before he lets you pass the stalagmites in his room. Only then can you attempt the final trial of courage and it's like a mandatory part of the story.
OR you can just jump past the barrier with a crazy and rather simple glitch.
Equip the sword on whatever character you're controlling. Stand to the right of Sage Joch aka Jehk and walk as far right as you can go. Your character will be facing to the right on the right side of the platform. Now charge a Level 1 Sword attack.
When you release the Level 1 Sword attack, immediately hit Select to switch to another character, and walk left to talk to Sage Joch. This second character will be facing left while talking to Sage Joch, and ideally they will have their feet aligned with Sage Joch's... hands? Are they claws?
Either way, if you did it right, your first character should do his Level 1 Sword attack - which is a jumping slash - and jump over the left ledge, landing beyond the stalagmites. Now all you need to do is press Select until you are controlling that first character, and you can walk straight up to the next area!
This trick skips a big chunk of the game, so you may be under-leveled for this dungeon, but there's another trick you can do to easily win against the upcoming boss. I'll post a video about it soon.
