Miraak is the primary antagonist of the Dragonborn expansion for Skyrim, and your rival as the first Dragonborn.

Miraak was originally a Dragon Priest in the time when the dragons ruled Tamriel. However, he eventually turned on the dragons and other priests and went his own way. He later sought the teachings of Hermaeus Mora, and became his champion. However, Miraak decided that he wished to be free of the daedric prince just as he sought to be free of the dragons. During the events of Dragonborn, he is imprisoned within Apocrypha and can only return to Tamriel once he has gained sufficient power to free himself from Hermaeus Mora's service.

Miraak is never physically encountered outside of Apocrypha but once you complete the quest The Temple of Miraak, he will occasionally be present after you kill a dragon. In these situations, Miraak appears in a semi-transparent and invulnerable state and absorbs the soul of the slain dragon (preventing you from obtaining it). He will then make a brief remark towards you and disappear. This event will continue to happen until he is killed during the quest At the Summit of Apocrypha.

In combat, he primarily utilizes destruction magic and dragon shouts, such as Bend Will, Cyclone, Dragon Aspect, Fire Breath, and Whirlwind Sprint, as well as a unique shout that automatically kills dragons and absorbs their souls. He also wields two unique weapons: a sword and staff.

He wears a set of unique robes, gloves, boots, and his eponymous mask.
