Skyrim Nolvus Ascension thorough playthrough [GeForce GTX 1060] #2 It's a dungeon crawler now
NOTE: The game looks WAY better than in my video. Seems like YT compression takes no prisoners here.
NOTE 2: I still don't know all the changes and settings for new combat and magic mechanics and, as you can see, I still use good ol' item and quick slot management, but I know there are some mods that make it a lot easier to change weapons or drink potions on the fly. It will take some time for me to discover, set and use everything.
NOTE 3: For more information about the playthrough, the modpack, etc. please read the description in Part 1.
Because I reached the character limit in the previous description, I need to address some issues or things I don't like:
- sometimes, the character will stop attacking for no apparent reason and I am stuck, can't either sheathe the weapon, jump or interact with anything. It usually lasts for several seconds, but it's a real pain, especially in the middle of a fierce fight,
- although I really like the new "beautified" male and female models, the creators went a bit overboard with the design of some of the main NPCs like Aela the Huntress - she now just looks like some JRPG princess and completely breaks her character, it's just a small disadvantage and maybe other people prefer such changes,
- despite of the huge amount of changes, the game still feels like Skyrim - you must not expect this game to become a fluent action RPG with smooth parkour mechanics - jumping still feels awkward, NPCs get blocked by small obstacles, etc. Bear that in mind.
Now some other explanations: I usually play games likes Skyrim with a set of rules in my mind for immersion reasons. For this playthrough, I imagined my character to be some sort of an outcast/adventurer who ended up at the border of Skyrim and must gain fame and enough reputation to mean something. I know that there is a house near Whiterun that you get for a simple quest. I will avoid it for some time because that would fell like cheating. I also added a companion and really felt that to be against my rules as well, especially because the follower from the mod (the follower is named Toccata and the mod can be set in MCM under the same name) just joins you for free. There are no introductions or fees, just bam and you have a powerful healer on your side. That is why I set a sum of septims that the follower will get for every week (as if regular wages) which forces me to actually go "adventuring" to gain money to pay for my bodyguard. I also set another mod to sometimes share the gold I find with the followers. With Toccata on my side, I can finally explore the world without dying all the time. She is very powerful thanks to the healing spell (which can also be tweaked to your liking).
In this part: at the end of the first part I ended up in a dungeon. I thought it will be a small cave... and oh boy I was wrong. There is no end to this maze, one dungeon is connected with a new, tougher one and I had to finally get out because my character was getting exhausted (survival needs), my bags were full and I simply didn't want to end up in a place way too difficult for me at the moment. Still, one of the first big suprises: you just enter a simple basement and all of a sudden you delve into a multi-leveled system of dungeons. That's incredible! But I still can't get used to the combat system and get killed all the time. I still don't know how to dodge...
