Slave Zero (Dreamcast)
Slave Zero. What a mixed bag. It was one of the last games developed by Accolade (that started when a group of developers left Activision back in mid 80s). Accolade had marginal successes during the early 1990s. Bubsy for the Mega Drive/Genesis and Super Nintendo sold well and was the company's best-selling game until Test Drive 4 came out in 1997. Star Control 2 for the PC (1992, DOS) is still considered one of the true classics of that era.
However, in the mid-90s, Accolade ran out of luck and they started producing and publishing games that performed poorly, both critically and sales.
Accolade suffered financially and several rounds of lay-offs occurred. In an last effort to heal Accolade they published Test Drive 4, 5 and 6 as well as Test Drive Offroad. Accolade was eventually purchased by Infogrames in 1999, right after publishing their very last game Redline.
Here is where we usually write something about the game, but we strongly recommend that you read linked interview (from April 2014) with Trevor Grimshaw - the senior artist on Slave Zero.

From the article, it's easy to read out that Slave Zero was a passion project from Grimshaw and lead artist Ken Capelli. The Dreamcast version is notoriously bad (in every aspect) and suffered poor reviews all over the board when it was released. The much better PC version however still has loyal fans and can be acquired through Good Old Games:

We recommend it! Even though the game hasn't aged well the passion of the lead artists show and it's just a really fun game.
If you want to have a look at the PC version, we recommend that you take a look at LGR's review where he not only speak fondly of the PC version, he also compare it to the Dreamcast. You can find his review here:
