Our dandy vampire is finally here after nearly three years of waiting. Slayer has quite the few connections to the rest of the cast; he gave Sol his title of "Sol," back when he was just Badguy. He founded the Assassin's Guild so he's got connections with Millia, Zato-1 and Venom, he's an old sparring partner for Gabriel, Potemkin's boss, and he once fought Paracelsus and left him for the scientist that made A.B.A to find. And now with this game we learn he also was the one who turned Nagoriyuki into a vampire in the first place! As an immortal nightwalker, Slayer is possibly the strongest character in the series but isn't into getting involved in most human problems. He'd rather just hang out with his equally immortal wife, Sharon/Shannon.
A Power character, what Slayer lacks in defense and long-reaching attacks is made up for with scary mix-ups from his Dandy Step command dash and incredibly high damage. Normally his combos and damage aren't all that impressive unless he gets a counter hit...but he has tools to force those out. His command grab, Bloodsucking Universe, makes his next attack a counter hit even if the opponent didn't hit anything, and in the past he could take the invincibility from his backdash and apply it to specials to plow through opponents. In Strive they have heavily nerfed his backdash but gave him a new move out of his backdash, Hand of Doom, to try to replicate backdash cancels but...it's kinda bad. But who needs that when you have Pilebunker?!
Slayer's fun, but the power might be going to my head a bit. You have to really learn good neutral to get far with him, but I'd rather just punch my problems away, you know? Not sure if I'll slide him into the rotation of characters I normally use but for now I can see the appeal of dandyism.
I have...another fighting game I should probably do a video on soon. Not that I'm looking forward to it. You'll all find out soon enough. Until then, later!
