In Smash Ultimate, holding Away during an empty landing allows you to turn around during a character's landing lag frames, instead of afterward. I suspect the following bug is related to this mechanics change.

If you land on the ground during non-tumble hitstun, you're supposed to be unable to perform any action until the hitstun ends.

However, the game allows you to turn your character around by holding the direction your character isn't facing, even if you're still in hitstun. This shifts your character and creates extra distance away from the opponent.

If you start the Away input within ten frames of hitstun ending (while holding Shield), it will buffer a roll unless you release Away before hitstun ends.

As a result, the easiest way to do this consistently is to combine this with an SDI input Away on the initial hit, since that's usually well before ten frames of hitstun ending, and you can just continue holding Away to turn around when you land.

The distance moved is unique to each character's turnaround animation, so how much this helps varies greatly from character to character.

Music is "F-F-Fire!" from Mother 3.
