[SMS:Eclipse 18] Peach Beach + Final Boss (Backlogging 51)
So maybe I wasted an extra 10 minutes on the final boss trying to style. So what.
I wonder if they just ripped the level straight from the Double Dash files and made a SMS navmesh, or if they rebuilt it entirely from scratch. The Box Bashing minigame is honestly pretty fun. It's also a really great way to practice Turbo Nozzle Spinjumping to Ground Pounding for precision. I'd imagine speedrunners would have a field day with the level optimizing the best lines and times for it. You definitely need to figure out a good pattern with some of the blocks going underwater occasionally.
No idea what those squids are for, except maybe to be obstacles. Even Yoshi can't eat them. They definitely should add some extra sprinklers around, too, outside of the Speed Trial level. I'm not sure if there are checkpoints for the Speed Trial level or you can just go around the back real quick like. I'm sure they probably put some checkpoints in you needed to hit before finishing knowing what everyone does about the Blooper Surfing Safari checkpoints, but where they are would probably require looking at the code or lots of trial and error.
That Pianta under the tree on the beach taking delight in others misfortune is a mood and half. Also, the secret level entrance is full of fresh banana peels and Koopa shells. Kind of terrifying if you think about it as if the Koopas ran out of bananas to eat in captivity and wasted away(but there weren't any dry bones, so don't worry about it!). And those green coin hitboxes are way smaller than you'd expect.
As for the final boss fight, the Piantas going around actually did something for once and evacuated everyone! How come they took this long to actually do anything instead of just making Mario get all the Shine Sprites back? But yeah, I was making it harder than it needed to be. I'll take this fight any day over that Firey Pete fight. That one was just annoying. I feel like a lot of work went into making a single level and song for a single Shine boss battle that'll last less than 5 minutes anyways. Also, the radio tower collapsed, so I don't know who's putting out the D.E.B.S. report during the fight!
I really thought that water rocket would shoot where I was aiming with Y button even while spinning. Still hit the 360 NO Scope though :D
I'm still curious if you can get a 100 coin shine on the final boss level though. And yeah, Mario doesn't really throw those bombs very far.
