0And once more we dive into Athena. Oh god, this game. And it got so much worse from before. Hell was decent enough - and what a statement that is. Annoying with just how many enemy spawns there were on top of there being some "dirt" blocks that were straight black along with the background. Joy, invisible environment, that's fun.
Follow that though with the most god-awful maze and puzzle. World of Labyrinth. Sure, with a name like that you knew what it would be, but what you didn't know was that you had to find a harp and a lamp. There is absolutely zero indication in game that this is your goal. You just go back to the beginning of the stage if you don't have them. On top of that, there are fakes! And a time limit. Oh yes, I consulted a guide for that. Because it is AWFUL. Then comes a mini repeat of the game, fortunately much easier but you still need to find the arrows at the right time. The final boss actually could have been fun, I liked having to take him out in stages, but the lack of any type of hit indicator until the meant that when I was finally getting one, I thought it was indicating a LACK of hit, so I stopped attacking. Sigh. Plus, randomly moving heads that do random damage to you, sometimes the hitbox goes right through you for no damage, sometimes it can just massively stack for 6+ in one swipe. This isn't fun. Nothing about this is any fun. It could have been, but all that randomness ruins it.
So after three absolute duds of games, I was not looking forward to the next one. Guerrilla War. And right away before the game even starts... I am impressed. Really. The graphics are so much nicer than anything to that point at been. Colors are appropriate, you can tell what things are supposed to be, the characters look solid, there's large images for the photo and for the title screen. It's looking good. And once the game starts, it's a breath of fresh air. The controls are good, the enemies, while numerous, are not cheap. It's challenging, but not in a way that's unfair. No random spawning crap, enemies that do ambush you come out of logical places, like surrounding a bridge or coming from foxholes. On top of that, the weapons are a lot of fun to use. And unlimited continues! Nos, I did play with the rewind, but this.. this is it. This is what I was promised.
